BMW 330e, plug-in hybrid
New version that increases the autonomy in electric mode up to 60 kilometers
The BMW 3 Series increases its potential with a new version, plug-in hybrid, which is perhaps the most efficient in the range. It offers a range in electric mode of up to 60 kilometers, which is an increase of 50% compared to the previous model. The launch of the 330e will take place next summer.
This version incorporates the latest generation of eDrive technology from the German manufacturer, with the combination of a four-cylinder petrol engine and an electric one that generates a continuous power of 68 hp but with a power peak of 113 hp. Thus, it has a system known as XtraBoost that allows a temporary increase in power of up to 41 additional CV.
The petrol engine with TwinPower Turbo technology throws 184 horses. Together, the two propulsion units are capable of developing a power of 252 HP, with a maximum torque of 420 Nm. As a result, the car accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 6.0 seconds and reaches a top speed of 230 km / h.
The electric range can reach up to 60 kilometers and the figures for consumption and emissions are reduced by more than 10%, compared with its predecessor. The official average cost is 1.7 liters per 100 kilometers and only emits 39 grams of CO2 per kilometer. When driving in Hybrid mode, the new 330e is able to reach a speed of up to 110 km / h only with the electric motor, while in Electric mode, it can be driven at speeds of up to 140 km / h.
Available in a saloon body, it stands out for its specific sound and an acoustic protection function for pedestrians is also included as an option. The electric motor is integrated into the eight-speed Steptronic gearbox to save space, which is only 15 millimeters longer than the conventional propulsion versions of the new 3-Series.
The electric motor can take the function of a generator to recover energy in the braking that is supplied to the battery or through a connection with the electrical network that also serves to power the vehicle's electrical system. The lithium-ion battery is 12 kWh and is located under the rear seats, with the fuel tank located above the rear axle. The space for luggage is reduced slightly to 375 liters, although it can be extended by folding the rear seats, with a 40:20:40 split.
Regarding the equipment, there will be a basic level, plus Sport, Luxury and the most sporty M Sport. For the most demanding, the M adaptive suspension, variable sports steering and the sports braking system are offered. It will also equip the driver assistance systems program, from the Driving Assistant Professional with assistance at the address to the Parking Assistant Plus, which includes the Reversing Assistant.
By selecting a public charging point in the browser, the system will provide a list of hotels, restaurants, cafes, tourist attractions and nearby cultural institutions; In addition, a forecast of the occupation status of the recharge point will be provided at the time of arrival. Another advantage is that the passenger compartment can be heated before starting the journey thanks to the power of the battery that feeds the auxiliary heating.
