SsangYong, back to the Dakar

SsangYong, back to the Dakar

Premiere of the new Rexton DKR in buggy format with Óscar Fuertes and Diego Vallejo

After the success achieved in the last edition with the second place among the debutants and 30th overall, SsangYong faces the second consecutive participation in the toughest rally. Óscar Fuertes and Diego Vallejo at the wheel of the Rexton DKR, in "buggy" format and much lighter, face the goal of reaching the goal again.

SsangYong has developed for this challenge a new car, the new Rexton DKR, which fuses the concept "buggy" with the muscular design features of the flagship of the Korean firm. Compared to last year's model, reliability has been reinforced and at the same time it is faster and lighter. With propulsion only to the rear wheels, it is a type of vehicle that best adapts to the route proposed by the organization.

It fits into the category T1.3 grouping the two-wheel drive vehicles with gasoline engine. It equips a powerful V8 of 450 horsepower and with a weight in order of march of 1,900 kilos accelerates from zero to one hundred in only 4,4 seconds; the maximum speed is 195 km / h. The propeller is located in longitudinal central position to achieve a better weight distribution.

The body, inspired by the style of the new Rexton, is lighter, offers a greater angle of attack to better overcome the worst obstacles and is more aerodynamic. It uses a multitubular chassis of lightweight materials, welded with TIG technology and reinforced to provide maximum strength and torsional rigidity.

The transmission is new. It is a six-speed Sadev box with manual and sequential operation with a new ceramic tridisk clutch that supports up to 1,500 Nm of torque and a new self-locking differential type Torsen with a higher blocking percentage in both acceleration and retention. For adjustable dampers, it mounts a double system with expansion compensator, adapted to the characteristics of the new car.

The 2019 Dakar will be played from January 6 to 17 only on Peruvian lands, with a route along the ten stages, and a total of approximately 5,000 kilometers of which 70% will run through sand and dunes and 3,000 km of sections timed. As a novelty for this edition, the team has also registered a 6 x 6 truck that will run the race and assist the vehicle, as well as a standard Rexton and a motorhome, in order to improve assistance and provide the necessary logistical and technical support .
